Following on from last year’s Sophie’s Choice, new work specially
commissioned by The Royal Opera features again in this Royal Opera House Season with The
Tempest, based on the Shakespeare play. The music is by Thomas Adès, a young
British composer who established his international reputation through the
huge success of his chamber opera Powder her Face (1995) and whose
orchestral works are performed by the world’s great symphony orchestras. With
‘the extrovert panache of a great opera composer’ at the head of a fine
creative team, The Tempest promises to be a truly unmissable event of the
Season.
